AKIE NAKATA
Akie is a Japanese artist who transforms stones into realistic animal paintings. By combining her hobbies of collecting rocks and animal portraiture, she creates unique pieces and gives the material a new life. The artist highlights that she never alters the natural shape or texture of a stone, yet finds it important for it to resemble an animal. Finished paintings are shared through social media in order to find them new homes.
“Stones may fall outside our usual definition of living organisms, but when I think of the long time it takes for a stone to change from a huge boulder in the mountains to the size and shape it has, as it rests in my palm, I feel the history of the earth that the stone has silently witnessed over the millennia" - Akie for You & Art Magazine
